A gallery of ceramic sculpture. It’s rare to feel as if an animal can possess you — inhabit your body, mind and spirit as if it were a new lover exploring all your real and artificial selves. Dress your dogs and cats with as many sweater vests, booties and hats as you want; they’ll never come close to the hybrid human qualities that seductively inhabit the work of Beth Cavener Stichter. This might be, in part, because she views her stone sculptures as portraits — of people she has met briefly  in passing or good friends or family. She doubles the uncanny moment by acknowledging that these creatures are self-portraits as well,  since the very act of interpreting another’s actions, facial expressions, and intentions says — and betrays — much more about our own fears and desires than the other person. We rarely acknowledge or intellectually wrestle with this flash-fiction judgment that we impose onto friends and strangers alike.

The raven is sometimes known as “the wolf-bird.” Ravens, like many other animals, scavenge at wolf kills, but there’s more to it than that. Both wolves and ravens have the ability to form social attachments and they seem to have evolved over many years to form these attachments with each other, to both species’ benefit. There are a couple of theories as to why wolves and ravens end up at the same carcasses. One is that because ravens can fly, they are better at finding carcasses than wolves are. But they can’t get to the food once they get there, because they can’t open up the carcass. So they’ll make a lot of noise, and then wolves will come and use their sharp teeth and strong jaws to make the food accessible not just to themselves, but also to the ravens.Ravens have also been observed circling a sick elk or moose and calling out, possibly alerting wolves to an easy kill. The other theory is that ravens respond to the howls of wolves preparing to hunt (and, for that matter, to human hunters shooting guns). They find out where the wolves are going and following. Both theories may be correct.Wolves and ravens also play. A raven will sneak up behind a wolf and yank its tail and the wolf will play back. Ravens sometimes respond to wolf howls with calls of their own, resulting in a concert of howls and calls.

~Snow White~
I’m soooooooooo sorry I’ve been inactive! D:
I’ve had the worst block ever, but I figured out that I’ve just gotta push through. With that I bring you my latest piece fresh out the oven.
I had this idea a while back about how cool it would be if there were a black Snow White. In the original fairy tale, her beauty is attributed to the strong contrast in her white skin against her black hair and eyes, so I thought hmm… What if it was her snowy hair and eyes that contrasted against her dark skin? I referenced a few things for this painting, I’m happy with the turnout, hope you guys are too.

godDAMNNNNNN. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. this is so GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!

Books are sort of like the TARDIS.

Their content exceeds their mass.

And they take us to worlds and times we’ve never dreamed of seeing.

That was beautiful.
